From the Journal Tribune: “Drivers on the Route 1 Wednesday morning may have noticed someone running south with a torch. Members of World Harmony Run were completing a stretch in southern Maine as part of their overall goal to run 11,000 miles through 50 states.”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “Residents of eight South Berwick trailers and a tenement house with 12 apartments continued to be without piped water today. The town’s water district shut off the supply Tuesday, saying the owner, Howard F. Proof, hadn’t paid his bill. Proof said he would pay it under protest.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “Naples is the first town in Cumberland county to pay the 1916 county tax, and a check for $412 was received by the county commissioners Wednesday. Notices were sent out on August 1, and the commissioners are very desirous that all towns and cities in the county will follow the good example of the smart little town up the line.”
