Friday, Sept. 9

The Village Art Walk, coordinated by Kennebunk- Kennebunkport-Arundel Chamber of Commerce and local art galleries, will continue tonight in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. The free self-guided walking tour of art galleries, studios and organizations of Kennebunk’s Lower Village and Kennebunkport’s Dock Square and Ocean Avenue is held on the second Friday of the month in the warmer months, plus during Christmas Prelude on Dec. 9. Admission to all galleries is free and open to the public. This month, the Sue Rioux Gallery will present live music by Lisa Mills and her Ocean Avenue band outside the gallery in Lower Village.

Saturday, Sept. 10

A contra dance session will be offered at the Kennebunk Town Hall, in benefit of The New School, and will begin at 7 p.m. The cost is $10 per person, but children under 12 can attend for free. Ongoing contra dances will also take place the second Saturday of every month. Bill and Pam Olson will call the event. For more information, contact Janet Perry at 985-3745.

A roast beef supper will be served to the public at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 20 Jenkins Road, Saco, from 5-6:30 p.m. The menu includes roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, string beans and strawberry shortcake for dessert. The cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children ages 5 to 12.

Sunday, Sept. 11

Strut Your Mutt takes place on Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk. There will be music, activities for kids, contests for dogs and a Pet Pavilion, with merchants selling all kinds of pet-related merchandise. Visit animalwelfaresociety.org to learn more and register for the event.

Celebrate Grandparents Day at Atria Kennebunk at 2 p.m. There will be entertainment with Larry and Tina Allen, a kid-friendly concert, an ice cream social and an opportunity to dance and have photos taken. Larry and Tina Allen play a variety of upbeat jazz classics from today and yesteryear.

The Tory Hill Meetinghouse in Buxton will resume winter hours on Sunday, with services returning to 10:30 a.m. All members of the community are welcome to visit.

The Blue Note Big Band will play at the gazebo in Gowen Park on Main Street, Sanford, at 4 p.m. The event, sponsored by the Sanford Parks and Recreation Department, is free, but donations are accepted. Attendees are invited to bring picnics, lawn chair and/ or blankets. For more information, call 324-9130 or visit the website sanfordmaine.org.

Monday, Sept. 12

Introduction to sign language classes will be held for free on Mondays from 6:15-7:30 p.m. at the McArthur Public Library on 270 Main St. in Biddeford starting Sept. 12. Isabelle Hart will lead the sessions on how to sign and how to understand someone who’s signing. Classes will include how to express oneself in A.S.L. as well as how to understand other various expressions. A textbook will be available for purchase, and is required for the course. To register, call 282- 7975. Participants will receive a return call to confirm their spot in the course. Class space is limited, so call soon.

“Close Encounters with Carol Steinguard,” hosted at Atria Kennebunk at 2 p.m., is a kid-friendly interactive exhibit featuring live creatures from ocean tidal pools. Learn all about the sea’s ecosystem and what common items include seaweed.
