FROM STAFF REPORTS

Hastings Hastings OLD ORCHARD BEACH — An Augusta man wanted by police and said to be a member of Aryan Nations with a history of violent crimes was found in Old Orchard Beach Thursday and arrested on charges of probation violation and aggravated criminal mischief.

On Wednesday, Old Orchard Beach Police received notice from the Maine Department of Corrections that Jacob Hastings, 27, was wanted for skipping probation on a Class A robbery conviction, according to a police report.

Hastings had last been seen driving a white Chevrolet TrailBlazer registered to a family member and believed to be in the Old Orchard Beach area. He was known to have a history of violent crimes and made recent comments about killing officers attempting to apprehend him, according to police.

It has been verified that he is a member of the white supremacist group Aryan Nations, police said.

On Thursday, police found the car Hastings was driving at a rental property at 42 Milliken St. in Old Orchard Beach. Around 10 a.m., officers from the Old Orchard Beach Police Department and the Department of Corrections staged a coordinated tactical approach in an attempt to apprehend Hastings at the Milliken St. property.

After agreeing to surrender, Hastings ran away and was caught a short distance away by officers, who were assisted by two bystanders. In his attempt to escape, Hastings tried to steal a vehicle from its owner, according to police.

Police say Hastings was combative, and, while being transported to the police department, smashed the window of a police cruiser and escaped. Hastings again resisted apprehension but was quickly subdued and taken into custody with the use of a taser by OOB police.

Hastings was taken to Maine Medical Center for minor injuries, and is being held at York County Jail in Alfred regarding the Department of Corrections probation violation and an additional charge of aggravated criminal mischief through the Old Orchard Beach Police Department. Other charges may be filed, say police.

During the incident, transient Justin Ireland, 35, was also found at 42 Milliken St. He was arrested on four active arrest warrants including violation of bail, violations of conditions of release and failure to appear. The warrants were from Caribou, Presque Isle and Washburn.
