15th anniversary of 9/11 observed


Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

President Barack Obama proclaimed Friday through Sunday as National Days of Prayer and Remembrance to honor and remember the victims of 9/11 and their loved ones.

Gov. Paul LePage is directing that on Sunday, both U.S. and State of Maine flags shall be lowered to half-staff and fly at half-staff for the entire day.

On Sunday, the story of the Salvation Army’s response in the aftermath of the tragic event will be told by firsthand accounts of those who were at Ground Zero. The stories will be shared at 6 p.m. at the Salvation Army Seaside Pavilion, 8 Sixth St., Old Orchard Beach.

Also on Sunday, the Old Orchard Beach Flag Raising Committee will recognize the 15th anniversary of 9/11 at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at First and Heath streets in Old Orchard Beach.
