The boat was stuck Tuesday evening after the owner, who is believed to be from Georgia, anchored in Saco Bay after purchasing the boat in the Boothbay region, said Fire Captain Norm Gendron Wednesday morning. The boat got loose and became stuck in the sand.

Gendron said a boat recovery crew unsuccessfully tried to tow the boat out of the sand Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, an excavation company from Portland was working on an estimate, and is requiring money up front to haul the boat out of the beach. If the owner doesn’t come forth with the money, the town may have to come up with a plan.
