OOB Historical Society seeks memorabilia

OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Do you have great memories of dancing at the Old Orchard Beach Casino Ballroom or the Palace Dancehall on West Grand Avenue? Do you recall Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians? Did you dance to tunes from the Dorsey Brothers, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, or Louis Armstrong?

Those who remember those times or others intrigued in this part of the town’s history may be interested in a coming exhibit at the Harmon Museum.

Old Orchard Beach Historical Society volunteers are about to bring back the great memories of the big band era at the museum, 4 Portland Ave., for the next two summers. The main exhibit room of the museum will feature memorabilia of the big bands of the 1930s- 1960s.

The public is invited to participate in the exhibit by lending or donating items from the big band era to the museum. Items sought include records, sheet music, newspaper articles, magazines, letters, pins, buttons, pictures, clothing or any other type of item.

Those interested in assisting with the exhibit may contact Harmon Museum curator Jeanne Guerin at 934-9319 or oobhistsoc@ maine.rr.com.
