Officer recovering after police vehicle collides with motorist

HODGDON (AP) - A police officer in Maine is recovering after her vehicle collided with an SUV in Hodgdon.

Police say Houlton Police Officer Jasmine Cyr was on routine patrol traveling south on U.S. 1 in Hodgdon on Friday night. She turned into a business parking lot to turn around and head back north.

As she entered U.S. 1, she didn't see the oncoming SUV and was struck head-on.

Police say a large snowbank obscured the view to the north and appears to have contributed to the crash.

The driver of the SUV, 42-year-old Monica Jones, of Amity, and two juvenile passengers were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 27-year-old Cyr also was taken to the hospital with suspected head injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
