Wells Public Library schedules array of winter activities

WELLS—A dazzling array of winter activities is sure to please just about anybody this month at the Wells Public Library.

According to Allison Herman, Assistant Director and Head of Youth Services for the library, activities are available for both children and adults. 

Herman said upcoming Children’s and Teen Programs include:

• Mother Goose Storytime, Monday, Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 0 to 24 months and their caregivers are invited to engage in lap activities, rhymes, songs, and fingerplays. These free events are sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library. For more information, send an email to aherman@wellstown.org or by calling the library at 646-8181.

• Toddler Storytime, Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 2- to 5-years-old and their caregivers are invited to meet on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings for stories, songs, and movement, all followed by a craft. These free events are sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library. For more information, call 646-8181.

• Teen Movie Matinee, Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 1:15 p.m. Need something to do on an early release day? Stop by the library on the last Wednesday of each month to watch a movie. Have fun hanging out with friends, eating popcorn, and enjoying the show. This free program is sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library. • Lego and Rubik’s Cube Club, Friday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m. Let the brain games begin. Participants are invited to build master creations with Legos provided by the library. We will also have Rubik’s cubes on hand with instructions on how to solve the cube. All ages welcome. For more information, call 646-8181.

• Teen Crafternoon: Sock Snowmen, Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. Stop by the library one Wednesday each month to try out a new craft. This January, we will be making clever little snowmen from new socks. We provide the supplies, you bring the creativity. For details, call 646-8181.

• Penguin Party, Thursday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. You’re invited to a Penguin Party -- waddle on over to celebrate the cute little critters with penguin crafts, games and more. All ages welcome, although no whales allowed. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Wells Public Library. Herman said that upcoming Adult Programs at the library include:

• Meditation Group, Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 12 p.m. If meditation is something you are curious or passionate about, this program is for you. Learn how to consistently incorporate mediation into your life in order to increase health, well-being and inner peace. Wellness Coach Cindy Simon will lead us in a weekly meditation session. • Conversational French Language Group, Thursday, Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. Join us for an informal approach to practicing or re-learning French. This group will meet weekly on Thursdays to speak French. We will offer some activities, questions, and other approaches to practicing the language, but mostly it will be up to the group to determine what the format will be. • Needle Felting Penguins with Danielle Bonney, Thursday, Jan. 19 at 2:30 p.m. Back by popular demand. Needle felting is a process using barbed needles to interlock wool fibers to form a more condensed material. Local needle felter Danielle Bonney will teach us how to make cute penguins using this technique just in time for an early Valentine’s Day gift. Materials are provided. Open to ages 8 and up. • Computer Camp for Smartphones, Thursday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. Did you get an exciting new smartphone, but aren’t entirely sure how to use it? Come to our computer camp for a brief overview on how to operate one. We will focus on Android-based smartphones, but there will be time at the end for individual questions covering all devices.
