Czech Republic women's national lacrosse team coach joins Maine Maritime

CASTINE -- Will Mraz was named the Maine Maritime Academy Head Women's Lacrosse Coach on Wednesday.
"It is truly an honor to be named the Head Coach for the Maine Maritime Women's Lacrosse program," said Mraz. "I'd like to thank Director of Athletics, Steve Peed and the search committee for their confidence in me and inviting me to Castine to help develop their young program. Maine Maritime is an outstanding Academy and their student-athletes represent all that is great in our country. I will be privileged to serve as the Mariners' next women's lacrosse coach."
Mraz is currently the Head Coach of the Czech Republic Women's National Lacrosse Team and will lead the team in this summer's Federation of International Lacrosse World Games in Surrey, England and is the Vice President of the Connecticut Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse for the Women's and Girl's game. Before coming to Maine Maritime, Mraz was the Head Coach of the Fairfield University Women's Club Lacrosse team.
Joining the Mariners with a wealth of lacrosse knowledge, Mraz previously served as an assistant lacrosse coach at both the Division I and II levels. From 2014-2016, Mraz was the Assistant Coach for the University of Bridgeport Women's Lacrosse team and from 1993-1996 Mraz served as the Assistant Coach for the Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse team. He was the Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator with the Czech Republic Men's National Team from 2011-2016, including for the World Games in 2014, and has founded and coached a number of youth, high school, and club programs in Connecticut.

Everything just pointed to Coach Mraz as the right leader at the perfect time to help our nascent program realize its potential."
Mraz is a 1973 graduate of Fairfield University, where he was a two-sport athlete and captain of the men's lacrosse team. Mraz was inducted into the Fairfield University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1999 for lacrosse. He was also named as the 2016 recipient of the "Fairfield University Founders Award" for his "Outstanding Contribution and Dedicated Service to the Sport of Lacrosse".
Outside of lacrosse, Mraz most recently served as the Director of Advancement for the Colleges of Nursing and Health Professions at Sacred Heart University. Before that, Mraz was the Major Gifts Officer at Fairfield University from 2011-2014, the President of the Greenich Golf Group from 2004-2011, and worked as the Vice President of Development at Fairways International from 2000-2004 and GRS Golf Group from 1995-2000.
