SANFORD — Police late this morning said a Sanford woman who went missing Jan. 22 was last seen at a local convenience store, disoriented and wet. When she left the store, Kerry Rear  went walking in the direction of Country Club Road, Route 4.

Rear, 40, was reported missing by her father, who lives in Florida,  on Jan. 28.

Jones today said police and firefighters are out searching the area of the roundabout and Route 4. As well, a Maine Warden service plane was in the air, looking for any signs of the woman.

She was seen at a Dunkin Donuts in south Sanford at about 7:50 p.m.  Jan. 22. After police put a photo of Rear and a request for information, a store clerk at L’il Mart near the roundabout recognized her  as having been in the store that night and notified police.

Sanford Police Det. Sgt. Matthew Jones said the clerk told police  Rear was disoriented, wet, and in her stocking feet that night.

“She was extremely disoriented and believed  she was in a bank,” said Jones. He said she had two conversations with L’il Mat store employees and at the adjacent McDonald’s before leaving on foot. Then, within minutes of leaving, she went back to the store and asked clerks the same questions as she had earlier — inquiring about making a bank deposit.

At the time, she was wearing brown sweat pants and a black puffy jacket  with a hood that had a pink lining.  Rear is 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs about 135 pounds.

Rear lives at Patriot’s Place, an apartment complex on Main Street, in the area of Dunkin Donuts and the convenience store.

Police said it is out of character for Rear to be out of touch with her family for such a lengthy period.

Jones said police do not suspect foul play.
