Remains of missing West Newfield man found

FROM STAFF REPORTS

NEWFIELD — The remains of a West Newfield man who had been missing for more than a month were found Friday morning.

John Sciaba Jr. was last seen walking in the woods behind his home on Stone Road on Feb. 3.

York County Sheriff Bill King in an email Friday afternoon said a hiker found the body, later identified as Sciaba, in the woods off Spring Road in Newfield at about 8 a.m. Friday. He was found just over a mile from his last known location on Stone Road.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death, King said.

Sciaba was a known outdoorsman, and had on occasion spent a night or two in the woods, King said at the time of Sciaba’s disappearance.
