Local meteorologist missing

Staff Writer

SACO — Police are asking the public’s assistance in locating local meteorologist Thomas “Tom” Johnston.

Johnston, 46, a meteorologist for WCSH 6 in Portland,  left Old Orchard Beach early Saturday morning to attend a function at Sunday River Ski Resort and did not return home or to work, said Old Orchard Beach Police Captain David Hemingway.

Johnston was reported missing early Monday morning by his significant other, who lives with the meteorologist  in Old Orchard Beach, said Hemingway.

Hemingway said police aren’t aware of any history of this kind of behavior with Johnston.

The police captain said there’s no indication of foul play.

He said Johnston may have had some contact with family or friends over the weekend.

Police describe Johnston as five feet nine inches tall, 200 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.

Police say he was driving a dark metallic gray 2017 Subaru Forester.

WCSH 6 General Manager Brian Cliffe declined comment, saying it was “a personal matter.”

Anyone with any information regarding Johnston’s location should call Old Orchard Beach Police department at 934-4911.
