Walk and Roll

SACO — Local veterans groups are inviting the public to get outside and support veterans at the VA2K Walk and Roll on May 17.

The event will take place at the Saco Veterans Affairs Clinic, 655 Main St., from noon to 1 p.m. There will be speakers, information on health and wellness, and music and food, said organizer Rich Litwin. There will be a short walk to accomodate people on lunch breaks, said Litwin.

Admission is free, but organizers ask people to come about 15 minutes before the start time to register.

Litvin said anyone who wants to come and enjoy the music and food and listen to the speakers can come, they do not need to participate in the walk.

Donations are not required, but those who wish to make a donation can give personal care items such as shaving cream, soap, detergent and shampoo that will be given to homeless and needy veterans.

“Everything collected will stay local,” said Litvin.

The VA2k Walk and Roll is observed nationally, with annual events held across the country, and coincides with National Employee Health and Fitness Day, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The event is held to encourge healthy lifestyles and support veterans.
