OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The Old Orchard Beach Chamber of Commerce is seeking artists for OOB Art in the Park, a juried art show that will be held on Aug. 3.

OOB Art in the Park will be held at Veterans Memorial Park, 4 Heath St. from 1 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 3

The deadline to apply is June 15, and information can be found at the chamber’s website at https://oldorchardbeachmaine.com.

There is a $10 non-refundable application fee, and work will be juried by members of the chamber and a committee of artists.

The cost to rent a 10 by 10 foot space is $75. Artists age 12 to 24 can apply for one of the five free young artist tables sponsored by the chamber.

Proceeds from the event will go toward a local art scholarship.

This is the first event of its kind sponsored by the chamber, but could be the beginning of more arts related events.

Event organizer Thomas Mourmouras noted communities like Biddeford which have become arts destinations, and said organizers would like Old Orchard Beach to embrace the arts scene.

Event organizers say a number of different types of artists and craftsmen have been selected thus far, and will be selling items that include pottery, sculpture, driftwood art, jewelry, hand-made clothing, upcycled bags, photography and beach glass art.

“We’re really excited about all of them. There’s a good variety,” said Chamber Marketing and Member Relations Manager Meagan Poirier.

Holly Ross of Fish House Designs in Kennebunkport is one of the vendors. Ross creates colorful paintings with whimsical designs. She said her work, which is fun, bright and is often done with a coastal theme in mind, is a good fit for a show in Old Orchard Beach.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this,” she said. “I think it’s kind of exciting to be in a show in the heart of Old Orchard Beach.”

Old Orchard Beach Chamber Executive Director Kim Verreault said late July and early August is typically a busy part of the summer season, and there should be many Canadian tourists in town the day of the event as its during Quebec’s two week construction holiday.

The show will coincide with the town recreation department’s Music in the Park series which typically draws a crowd to Veterans Memorial Park, and The Don Campbell Band scheduled to perform at 6:30 p.m.

Event organizers are working to secure other musical entertainment earlier in the day, as well as a few food vendors.
