Body found at State Street complex

Staff Writer

BIDDEFORD — Biddeford Police confirm they found a body in the parking lot of a multi-unit apartment complex at 24 State St. on Monday morning.

Dep. Chief JoAnne Fisk confirmed around 9 a.m. the body had been found, but did not have enough details to speak on the case.

Officers on the scene also said they couldn’t release any information at the time.

Residents of the complex, a large, multi-level apartment building just outside the city’s downtown, said the body was of a man and that it was found inside a black SUV at the back of the building’s parking lot around 6:15 a.m.

Other residents have said the body was not in the car, but was found next to it. Police have not released information to confirm either eyewitness report.

Resident Tina Turner said she called 911 around 6:23 a.m.

The man’s identity has not been released. A witness said she believed the man was shirtless with his pants unbuckled at the time he was found.

Residents said he appeared to be in his early to mid-20's. He was unknown to them, but they believed they’d seen him in the area before.

Amber Simonton, who lives at the complex, said she looked out her apartment window prior to going outside to smoke a cigarette when she saw the scene.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
