WOCSD budget passes with ease

FROM STAFF REPORTS

WELLS/OGUNQUIT —Votes have been tallied from the annual Wells and Ogunquit Town Meetings, and the WOCSD school budget has passed overwhelmingly.

In Wells, the budget passed by a vote of 1510- 367, and in Ogunquit yes votes were tallied at 424 as opposed to 95 no votes.

The $25.7 million school budget will address several capital improvement items, such as beautifying the front courtyard of the elementary school where pavement has eroded away, as well as mitigating drainage issues at the junior high in the schools back parking lot where kids often recreate.

In the new budget, $3.476 million will be designated toward health insurance, while $13.729 million will be allocated toward salaries.

The budget is a 2.83 percent increase — $708,870 — over last year’s budget.
