OLD ORCHARD BEACH — A blown transformer has caused a power outage in downtown Old Orchard Beach tonight.

On a warm summer evening, downtown is usually bustling in this tourist community. However, around
10 p.m. downtown was completely dark, except for the lights of public safety vehicles blocking traffic.
With local bars, pizza stands and other businesses out of power, a crowd of people stood on the sidewalk wondering when the power was going to come back on.

Fire Captain John Gilboy said firefighters received a report of an electrical transformer sparking at the corner of Old Orchard Street and East Grand Avenue. He said the transformer blew and Central Maine Power Company had been contacted.

Around 10:30 p.m., a Central Maine Power company truck was seen at the site addressing the issue.
