Road race, concert kick off Sanford’s holiday celebration

SANFORD —  Annual Randall’s “Run for the Gym 5K” road race will take place on Saturday as part of the Sanford’s Independence Day Fourth of July Celebration.

As one of the most popular running races of the season, the 15th Annual Randall’s Road Race is open to the general public and will start at 8:30 am from 457 Main Street. Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m.., and participants can choose to run or walk the 5-kilometer  distance.

At race completion, the first and second overall male and female runner will awarded cash prizes. Additionally, the top three male and female finishers in each age group  will also be recognized.

This year’s race will include the option to register and run as part of a two-person relay team, as well as a free, “Fun Run” course beginning at 9:30 a.m. . for kids ages nine and younger.

Entry fees are $25 for the general public, $15 for students and $20 for each high school and younger team entering as a relay. 

Later Saturday,  folks can enjoy the ever-popular Concert in Goodall Park. This year will feature Sanford’s own Boyz Gone Wild and Bon Fire, an AC/DC tribute band. Doors for the all-family event open at 5:30 p.m., and there will also be food and adult beverages. Tickets are $10 in advance, available at the Parks and Recreation Office in City Hall, or $15 at the door. 

On Sunday, July 2 at 6:30 p.m., southern New Hampshire’s Blue Note Big Band will play jazz music at Goodall Park. There will be food as well as adult beverages for this family event, as well. Tickets are $5, available at the Parks and Recreation Office or at the door.  

On Monday, July 3, food vendors and fireworks and music  will come to the area around Number One Pond in the late afternoon. The Maine Attraction Water Ski Show will take place on the pond at 6:30 p.m.  Fireworks are at 9 p.m. from the middle of Number One Pond.  

On Tuesday, July 4 the Annual July 4 Parade will march down Main Street to Gowen Park at 10 a.m. with the theme “Service Above Self.” If your group or organization wants to be involved, call the Parks and Recreation Office at 324-9130 or go Sanford’s website, www.sanfordmaine.org, where you can find parade participation and vendor forms.
