Kennebunk referendums pass overwhelmingly

FROM STAFF REPORTS

KENNEBUNK — More than 3,700 voters turned out at the polls at the Kennebunk Town Hall. In addition to the four state referendums, residents voted on two local referendum questions, both of which passed handily.

Question 1, asking whether to amend the town’s park use ordinance was approved, 2,955-633.The amendment changed the ordinance so that some beaches and Ethelyn Stuart Park, Tibbetts Plaza and Waterhouse Center, do not have to close from dusk to dawn as required at other beaches and parks. In addition, weapons, including knives or or any kind of fireworks, would be allowed in the park system if permitted by law.

Question 2 asked voters to accept Mabry Lane as a town way, which they did 3,012-625.

Kennebunk residents voted in favor of three of the four state referendums, voting for Medicaid expansion, a transportation bond and stabilizing pension funding, but against putting a casino in York County.
