Executive Editor

BUXTON — An investigation by Buxton Police will try to determine what caused a motor vehicle accident that killed a driver in the town on Tuesday evening.

According to a press release issued by Buxton Police Chief Troy Cline, officers from the Buxton Police Department and Buxton Fire-Rescue responded to the report of an accident on Narragansett Trail (Route 202) in the area of Boynton Road about 6 p.m. Tuesday.

"Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a silver Toyota Corolla that crashed into a tree with only the older male driver in the vehicle," Cline said.

The driver died from injuries he sustained in the crash at the scene.

Cline said that the State Medical Examiner’s Office will be examining the body of the deceased driver to obtain an official cause of death.

Saco Police Department assisted with crash reconstruction at the scene and continues to provide support to the Buxton Police Department in the ongoing crash investigation.

"At this time, speed appears to be a factor in this case," Cline said in the press release.

He said the driver's identity will not be released until all family members are notified.

"The Buxton Police Department is looking for assistance from the public with any additional information on this terrible incident," Cline said. "We have information that two males in a pickup truck removed the driver from the vehicle and left prior to emergency personnel arriving on scene."

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call the Buxton Police Department at
929-5151 or 929-6612.
