No students injured in Buxton school bus crash

BUXTON — A  37-year old Waterboro woman was charged with driving on a suspended license and failing to maintain control of her vehicle after her car crashed into a school bus carrying 34 children on Thursday morning.

None of the students on the bus were injured, Buxton Police Chief Troy Cline said in a statement.

Cline said the driver of the car, Melissa Cilley, was distracted at the time of the crash. The type of distraction was not specified.

The crash took place at 8:35 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of River Road, which is Route 112 and Upper Egypt Road.

“The bus driver and monitor were very helpful in obtaining information on all students on the bus at the time of the crash,” said Cline in the statement. “SAD 6 Superintendent Paul Penna and Buxton Center Elementary School Principal Kimberly O’Donnell were both on scene to assist with logistics for children.”
