LEBANON – A Lebanon woman suffered serious injuries when her sport utility vehicle was rear-ended Thursday by a Freightliner commercial truck on Carl Broggi Highway in Lebanon.

Jason A. Cole, Lebanon’s assistant rescue chief, said the woman driving a 1996 GMC Jimmy was making a left turn into the Colonial Mobile Home Park when the truck hit her from behind. A Mazda sport utility vehicle went off the road to avoid being hit. Cole said the driver of the truck told emergency personnel that he had been blinded by the sun.

The woman, whose name was unavailable, was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center. Her injuries were serious but not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the Mazda SUV was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.H., with non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was shut down for two hours to allow crews to clean up the wreckage. The truck and GMC Jimmy were destroyed. The crash took place about 3:25 p.m.
